October-end deadline set for road repair

Mangaluru: MP Nalin Kumar has directed the officials of the concerned departments to repair all the damaged roads including the national/state highways, ghat roads, PWD roads and the main roads of the district within the end of October.
The MP was speaking chairing the District Development, Coordination and Monitoring Committee meeting at Dakshina Kannada ZP hall on Thursday.
Works should not be delayed on the excuse of technical or financial problem. Not just the central government, If there is need for grants from the state government too, it must be brought to the notice. The grant will be provided, he claimed.
The state highway officials responded and explained that approval has been received for the maintenance of 13km stretch of the 20 km long Moodbidri-Kulshekar road. since the remaining road will be handed over to NHAI, the grant will not be available. The estimate for the maintenance of Mani-Sampaje road has been submitted. The estimate for the maintenance of the B C Road-Charmadi stretch has been created. The repair work of all the damaged roads will be taken up after the rain stops, the answered.
Landslide has occurred at 33 places along Charmadi ghat road and has been repaired. We have recommended the highway department to give permission for the movement of LMV here. Chikkamagaluru SP has not yet provided the approval, they informed.
Speaking at the meeting, deputy director of NHAI’s project said, Rs 24 crore has been sanctioned for maintenance and filling up of the potholes along the 34 km stretch between B C Road-Surathkal. The additional acquiring of 47 acres of land for the four-laning of B C Road-Addhole route has reached last stages and the work will be restarted soon after the process of issuing of the new tenders is completed, he informed.
The land acquisition for the upgrading of the Kulshekar-Karkala national highway has reached final stages in 18 districts out of the 20 districts along the route. The remaining two villages are in the court. The highway will be 45 meters wide, the official explained.
Overpass to be completed by Dec
Navayuga officials declared that the work concerning Pumpwell overpass will be completed by December. However, NHAI Bengaluru division GM Suryavamshi directed that attempts be made to complete the work within November.
Of the 8,333 km of road within the ZP limits, 861 km have been damaged, and a proposal of Rs 65 crore has been submitted, informed ZP rural development engineer.
Rs 943 crore incurred in damage due to rain
The rain has caused damage worth Rs 943 crore. 1,226 acres of paddy and 1,362 acre of cultivations has been destroyed. 949 houses have been damaged. Temporary compensation of Rs 10,000 has been distributed to 2,405 persons per head, informed ADC Roopa.
948 cases have been reported. 11 persons have lost their lives, two succumbed to dengue officially and there are 9 suspected cases. 104 rat fever cases have been reported, informed DHO.
Pachanady garbage landslide
The MP was irate regarding lack of action taken by the district administration and MCC regarding the garbage landslide at Mandara and alleged that no inquiry has yet been conducted on who was responsible for the incident. Taking an indirect taunt of the then DC Sasikanth Senthil the MP said that people who find fault with democratic processes in India, failed to fix accountability for this grave lapse in their backyard.
Meeting with CM within 15 days
The problem being caused to traffic movement due to the landslide at Shiradi, Charmadi and Sampaje ghat has been brought to the notice of the CM. A meeting in this concern will be held with the CM in the next 15 days and discussion will be held with the aim to find a proper solution, informed the MP.
