Smart City project: Don’t build any more bus shelters instructs Nalin

Mangaluru: Speaking at a meeting of district development, coordination and monitoring committee,  MP Nalin Kumar asked Snehal R, managing director of Mangaluru Smart City Limited, not to build any more bus shelters in the city, under the Smart City Mission, that costs a whopping Rs 12 lakh per shelter when the same is being built at just Rs 5 lakh in New Delhi.

The MP pointed out that the coast of Rs 12 lakh per bus stop being built in the city under the Smart City project was way expensive and added that the structures built so far were unscientific and does not cover 600 square feet area as claimed by the builder.

The MP also asked Snehal to hold an inquiry into the high cost incurred in building these bus shelters.

Smart road issue

The MP pulled up pulled up the concerned officials for the exorbitant price of Rs six crore spent for converting the 300 meter stretch of road between A B Shetty Circle and Clock Tower into a concrete road. Besides, the MP pointed out that the clock tower building was itself unscientific and will only increase the traffic chaos in the city instead of reducing it.

The MP said that Rs 55 crore sanctioned for connecting the missing links of the underground drainage system of the city under the AMRUT scheme was allocated for Smart City project and termed it to be wrong.
