Girgit controversy: Film makers agree to remove objectionable scenes

Mangaluru: The controversy over the film Girgit has reached a critical juncture. The Girgit film team has agreed to tender an unconditional apology and also remove parts of the film that have been criticized by the judiciary and the bar association.
Girgit Team advocate appearing before Mangalore’s Junior Civil judge on behalf of the film industry sought permission to continue premiering the film in theatres till they receive the edited version of the same. The editing of parts of the film is already underway in Chennai and the team requested for more time for the final cut.
Actor-director Rupesh Shetty was present on behalf of the film team. The judge, hearing the arguments, adjourned the hearing of the case to Monday.
Senior advocate M.P. Shenoy in his counter-argued that the bar association do not have any hatred or grudge against the Tulu film industry, actors and the directors of the film. He stressed that cinema is a responsible medium and the industry must be careful when portraying the characters. Bar Association Secretary, H.V Raghavendra said that the film team should work towards protecting the well-being of the judicial system and the sentiments of the advocate community.
Prior to that, the film’s team had held talks with the bar association and had requested that the lawsuit be dropped. The film team had promised to cordially address all the objections raised by the Bar Association. Also, a press conference was called and a pledge was made to publicly apologize.
