Officials seize trucks transporting sand illegally

Bantwal: In a sudden operation carried out under the leadership of Bantwal tahsildar Rashmi S R, a team of officials took into possession five sand trucks and handed them over to the police. The operation against trucks indulging in illegal sand transportation was conducted since last midnight.
Apparently, the trucks were loaded with sand from illegally maintained stocks and being sent to other districts for sale at exorbitant prices at night. The lorries had no license possessing for the activity and hence were handed to the police.
The operation was started at about 1.30 am on Friday and by morning, took five trucks transporting sand were taken into custody including two of the trucks taken into possession from Narahari, Panemangalore, a truck from Marnabail, another from Chelur, and one more from Padibagilu area in Vitla.
The surprise and quick action by the tahsildar caught the sand traders unawares and the seized trucks were handed over to the town and Vitla police stations depending upon the jurisdictions limits within which they were confiscated.
