Karwar: A college principal in Sirsi smashed mobile phone with a hammer after few students brought them to college despite the ban and the video of the same has gone viral on the social media platform.

The management of MES Chaitanya PU College had repeatedly warned their students not to use cellphones. Some allegedly used phones even in the classroom to exchange messages.

On September 12, principal of MES Chaitanya PU College, RM Bhat conducted a surprise check and seized 16 mobiles from students. Furious at students using mobile phones on the campus despite the warning, he hammered two phones and then delivered a lecture, along with the audio-visual presentation, on adverse effects of excessive mobile phone use.

Following the incident, RM Bhat’s action attracted criticism as well as appreciation.
