Rs 22 lakh stolen from house: Two thieves caught

Udupi: In a quick operation by Udupi police, two persons accused of stealing Rs 22 lakh in cash and half kg of silver from a house in Olakadu have been arrested. The arrested are identified as Atul Mahadev Bangne (24) of Sangli and Sandeep Chandrakant Shinde (25).

Sunanda Manikya Patil of Olakad in Udupi had gone to school on the afternoon of Sep 12 to give lunch to her children and returned within an hour only to find the lock of the house broken. Besides, the money kept in the kitchen as well as some silver jewellery inside the house had been stolen.

The accused Atul was arrested in Goa while Sandeep was nabbed in Byndoor. It is learnt that the accused have already spent Rs 15,000 out of the stolen Rs 22 lakh and the stolen half kilo of silver too has been recovered by the cops.
