Bajpe: The word “Savings” makes one happy. More respect is given to the good service which is provided by reducing the expenses and Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) is an example to this.

Led lamps have already been installed throughout MIA including the arrivals and departures hall, street lights, parking and everywhere. Due to the installation of LEDs, the electricity expenses will drop and thus savings is possible.

Since three years, the lights at MIA are being replaced with LEDs phase-by-phase. Now, almost 1,050 such lights have been installed.

Monthly saving of Rs 6 lakh

Due to the installation of LED lights ta MIA, Rs 6 lakh is being saved monthly on electric expenses. Two years back, the monthly electricity bill was around Rs 61 lakh which presently is at Rs 55 lakh. Even though MESCOM has increased its charges per unit, Rs 6 lakh is being saved in comparison to earlier bills. The earlier 250W bulbs have been replaced with 110W bulbs.

The use of LED bulbs has been started at the old airport. Already LEDs have been installed at the cargo, airport colony, street lights along the road from Muranagara to the airport and until the loader at the police station road. This contract was given to a company by the union government. Already, LEDs have been installed at 85 locations.
