Bengaluru: The state Cabinet on Wednesday decided to release Rs 1,000 crore from state funds for the construction of houses in the flood-hit districts.

The state government has also directed the concerned deputy commissioners to release Rs 5 lakh each to those who lost their houses in the disaster and Rs 25,000 to those whose houses were partially damaged.

For the repair of minor irrigational structures damaged in the floods, a Rs 500 crore grant has been released through the PWD and it has also been decided to release a grant of Rs 1,500 crore to MLAs to help them resume the interrupted relief work.

Grants released under the scheduled caste sub-plan and tribal sub-plan would be utilised for the restoration of roads, houses and providing basic amenities to the SCs and STs in flood-hit areas.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa tweeted, ” There is no proposal before the Government to divert the funds allocated under SCSP and TSP. The amount allocated will be exclusively utilized for SC&ST community only. We will ensure need-based and effective utilisation of the funds. The rumours about the diversion of the funds are unfounded.”
