Kundapur: In the backdrop of the allegation that even though transferred, he has disposed off files and demanded bribe, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) conducted a raid on the government residence that had been provided to the Assistant Commissioner of Kundapur Sub-Division Dr S S Madhukeshwar, who is also a KAS pass out on Thursday.

During the raid, Rs 1.28 lakh in cash, 23 files pending clearance and registers were found and seized by ACB sleuths and are currently being scrutinized.

Based on the allegation that the bribe was demanded while disposing files concerning a land dispute, the raid was conducted under the guidance of ACB SP Sudhir Hegde and was led by Udupi division DySP Manjunath Kavari.

Transferred two days ago

Dr| Madhukeshwar was transferred on Sep 16th, but was not appointed for any other post. On Sep 17th, Raju K took charge as the assistant commissioner of the sub-division.

Files disposed even after getting transferred

The raid was conducted on multiple complaints received from the public alleging that although Madhukeshwar was transferred, he nonetheless took a bribe from Rs 25,000 to Rs 1 lakh for the disposal of file relating land disputes, created the order and also illegally signed the file by registering it to the day before his transfer. Hence, the officials received the court’s permission on Wednesday and conducted the raid on Thursday. The officials arrived to Kundapur at 11 am in the morning, but since Dr| Madhukeshwar was not here, they waited for him elsewhere. In the afternoon around 2 pm, just as the accused was reaching the government residence, ACB conducted the raid.

First ever raid on an AC

For the first time in the history of Kundapur, a corruption control institution like ACB or Lokayukta has conducted a raid on an assistant commissioner. Before this, raids have been conducted on taksildars and officials beneath that level.

ACB sub-inspector Satish and staff were part of the team which conducted the raid.
