K’taka by-elections: Disqualified MLAs can’t contest, clarifies says Sanjeev Kumar

Bengaluru: In a shocker to the BJP and disqualified MLAs, Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sanjeev Kumar on Saturday informed that the disqualified MLAs disqualified cannot contest in the upcoming by-elections.

Addressing pressperson after Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora announced by-elections for 15 seats in Karnataka, Sanjeev said none of the disqualified MLAs can contest in any elections till 2023.

He also informed that the code of conduct will come into effect from today (Saturday) in the respective districts where by-polls are being held. There as many as 37, 49,047 electors will exercise their franchise in the polls and 4,185 polling stations.

“Citizens still have a chance to enroll their names in the voter lists. VVPAT-enabled EVMs will be used for the by-polls,” he added.

He also added that the by-polls for the RR Nagar and Maski Assembly constituencies are not yet scheduled.
