New rapid emergency operation vehicle arrives at MIA

Bajpe: A latest rapid emergency operation vehicle with the capabilities to act and control a fire faster than the presently used technology for the same purpose has arrived at Mangaluru International Airport and is ready for service. The vehicle has been procured from Dubai and this new introduction is an important step towards increasing passenger safety.

The airport already has 5 fire tenders. There are also vehicles that can transport up to 10,000lt of water. There are 39 experts who have received training domestically and abroad concerning firefighting. Along with this, a mechanized vehicle has recently been procured from Austria. This vehicle is useful during emergency situation with the capacity to reach 80kmph within 40 sec.

Presently, a new vehicle has been added to force. This vehicle is already in use at several international airports worldwide. The firefighters here have taken completely information and training concerning the vehicle.

Rapid emergency operation vehicle

This is the latest vehicle which can reach the disaster site quickly with the capacity to reach 80kmph within 25 seconds. If in case there is a fire incident in the airport, the vehicle can reach there in seconds. It can carry a load of 6,000 liters of water and 800 liters of fire retarding foam. It also has modern equipment which can be used to remove fallen trees and branches during emergencies. Besides, it has hi-mast lights and the entire system is computerized. A crew of 5 can travel in the vehicle.

Importance to people’s safety

The “Rapid Emergency Operation Vehicle” with the latest technology has been procured to give special importance to passenger safety. The firefighters at the airport will be further strengthened with this addition and special importance will be given for the safety of passengers – V V Rao, Director, Mangaluru International Airport
