Hubballi: Nearly a month after the state government temporarily suspended operation of South India’s only luxury train, the Golden Chariot, Minster of State for Railways Suresh Angadi on Wednesday said that the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) will take over the service of the luxury train.
Speaking after inaugurating the second entry point to the Hubballi railway station here, Angadi said that the state government had given its consent for the IRCTC to take over the service of the Golden Chariot.
Earlier in August this year, Tourism and Kannada and Culture Minister C.T. Ravi had informed that the luxury train service, which is operational from October to March, has been temporarily suspended owing to financial losses to the extent of Rs 41 crore.
Expressing hope that IRCTC would turnaround the Golden Chariot into a profitable venture, Angadi informed that the golden chariot is likely to rerun from January.
