District administration must repair roads, street lights: UTK

Mangaluru: “The district administration should take immediate steps to repair the roads and street lights ahead of upcoming Mangaluru Dasara,” said former minister and MLA U T Khader speaking to the media  here on Friday October 4.

“Scores of tourists arrive here to witness the grandness of Mangaluru Dasara, but when they notice the bad condition of roads and street lights that are not working. This sight paves way to wrong impression about the city in the minds of the tourists. The roads at Nanthoor and Pumpwell have completely been damaged. The least the district administration and state government can do is to take emergent steps to at least to maintain the basic amenities in satisfactory condition,” said Mr Kahder.

Bring out white paper

“Chief minister, B S Yediyurappa, should bring out white paper with regard to financial condition of the state. When Yediyurappa took over charge, he had said that the treasury was full. Now, his government is claiming that it has no funds. As the contrasting statements from the government have been confusing the people, he should bring out a white paper on the current financial standing of the government,” demanded Khader.

Flood compensation

“Central government has rejected the report of the state government pertaining to claim of flood compensation. The union government has been treating our state as its enemy, and we condemn this attitude. If the state government’s report was not proper, central government should have considered the report of the central team which visited the state and released the grant. Karnataka stands completely neglected on account of internal politics. As the BJP is in power at the centre, it should have been easier for the state leaders to convince the union government to release funds. It appears that there are no capable BJP leaders to represent our state. I urge the central government to stop treating the people of Karnataka as its enemies and start working for the welfare of the state,” said the MLA.
