Mother, daughter corpse found in a pond; suicide suspected

Kasaragod: Corpse of a woman and her daughter were found in a pond near their house and it is suspected that they might have committed suicide.
The deceased have been identified as Shantha G Rao (70), wife of retired teacher Gopalkrishna Rao, a resident of Manya Meginadka near Neerchalu in the district and her daughter Mallika Rao (50). The corpse were found in the pond near their house on Saturday, October 5 and it is assumed that the victims must have committed suicide based on a letter that they had written and kept in the house.
According to the cops, the letter has been written by Shantha Rao which state, “Daughter is unwell. I and daughter are going.”
Incident synopsis
On Friday night Oct 4, Gopalkrishna Rao and his other children had gone to the Navaratri Utsav which was taking place at Kollangana. On returning home at around 1 am in the morning, they found Shantha and Mallika were sleeping in one room. Gopalkrishna and other members of the family went to their respective rooms in the house and slept. However, when the family woke up on Saturday morning, both the women were missing.
Soon, the family stared searching for the missing women and located their footwear was found at around 100 meters from the house near the pond. Suspecting that they might have jumped into the pond, the family immediately alerted the fire service personnel.
The fire brigade reached the location and after some time, recovered the corpses from pond with assistance from the locals.
