Madikeri, Gonikoppa: 700 policemen deployed; alcohol banned

Madikeri: Altogether 700 policemen under the leadership of 4 DySPs have been deployed as Dasara Bandobast in Madikeri and Gonikoppa and Kodagu police is fully prepared to maintain a peaceful celebration of Dasara in the district, informed the district police superintendent Dr Suman D Pannekar speaking at a press meet here.

The SP informed that around 60 – 80k people are expected to visit Madikeri for Dasara celebration while about 15k people are expected at Gonikoppa. In the backdrop of the possible rise in people density during the Dasha Mantapa Shobha Yatra, police officials and policemen from other districts have been appointed for dasara bandobast at Madikeri and Gonikoppa. There is no need for people to worry about security, opinioned the SP.

Dasara bandobast

The SP informed that 4 DySP, 15 CPI, 24 PSI, SI and 700 policemen have been used for Dasara bandobast. Since women and ladies will be participating in the celebration, a 100 unit strong women policemen squad has been appointed at appropriate places. Besides, 200 home guards, 3 platoons of KSRP and 13 battalions of DAR have been kept on standby.

Ban on alcohol

As per the order of the DC Annies Kanmani Joy, all shops, ban and restaurants, clubs, hotels and sale of all alcohol has been completely banned in connection to the Ayudha pooja and Dasara celebrations to be held at Madikeri and Gonikoppa, from 6am on Oct 7th to 10am of Oct 9th within 10 km limits of Madikeri city police station and from the midnight of Oct 7th to 10am of Oct 9th within 10 km limits of Gonikoppa city police station limits.

Staffs on 10 jeeps, 12 bikes

Policemen have been appointed for patrol duty on the outskirts of the city in 10 jeeps and 12 bikes. Around 40 CC cameras have been installed at high people density areas. 17 videographers have been appointed to shoot video of the city. 7 Rambo teams have been appointed to control people density at areas with high people density. These teams will bear the prime responsibility to prevent clash between groups, she informed.

Crime branch in mufti

Since scores of people will be participating in the celebrations on the Dasara day, 7 teams of the crime branch in mufti have been formed to handle issue pertaining pickpocketing, chain snatching, eve teasing and other related cases.
