Coast Guard’s offshore patrol vessel ’Varaha’ arrives

Mangaluru: Coast Guard’s offshore patrol vessel ’Varaha’ arrived at New Mangalore Port on October 15, Tuesday and was received in the presence of senior Coast Guard officials including Raj Kamal Sinha, CISF officer Ashutosh Gaur and others.
The vessel, designed and built indigenously by Larsen and Toubro has the capabilities to operate twin engine Advance Light Helicopters. It is fitted with state of the art communication technology, navigation, sensors and machinery.
There is a a 30-mm gun and a 12.7mm gun on board the vessel for enhancing the fighting efficiency.
The special features of the vessel include an Integrated Bridge System, Automated power management system, high power external fire fighting system, indigenously built Integrated platform management system and Help Traversing System.
Varaha also carries four high speed boats including two rigid hull inflated boats for boarding operation, search and rescue, law enforcement and maritime patrol.It also has the capability of carrying Pollution Response equipment to contain oil spill at sea.
The ship propelled by two engines has a displacement of weighs 2100 ton, has an endurance of 5,000 kms and can achieve a maximum speed of 26 knots.
