Mangaluru: Orange alert announced; heavy rains expected today, tomorrow

Mangaluru: Good rains were reported from various locations in Dakshina Kannada district including Mangaluru since Friday morning. The rain is resultant to the fall in air pressure in the Arabian sea and Lakshadweep region. the heavy rain ensued during the afternoon inundated some low lying areas in the city.
Artificial flooding was experienced at several places in the city including Jyothi circle, Balmatta, Kottara cross, Jeppinamogaru, Hoige Bazaar and other areas. Passengers arriving and leaving from the central railway station in the city faced problem as the premises were inundated due to the sudden heavy rain and the ongoing work there.
In accordance to the forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department, “Orange Alert” has been announced for Oct 18th and Oct 19th. Rain, anywhere from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is expected during this period. As a precautionary measure, the fishermen have been cautioned from venturing out into the sea.
