Corporation election: Polling on Nov 12, counting on Nov 14

Mangaluru: Candidates contesting for the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) election should file their nomination on or before October 31st, informed DC Sindhu B Roopesh addressing reporters on Wednesday October 23rd.

The DC said that the nominations will be scrutinized on November 2nd and that Nov 4th was the last date to withdraw nomination. The election has been scheduled for Nov 12th from 7 am to 5 pm and in case of a re-election, it will be conducted on Nov 13th. The counting of votes will begin from 8 am on Nov 14th, she informed.

The election expenditure of a candidate should not exceed Rs 3 lakh and expenditure observers have already been appointed to observe the election expenses of all the candidates. The model code of conduct is already in place and the nodal officers have been deployed for its enforcement. High priority has been given for the smooth conduction of the election, informed the DC.

Heavy rain; houses damaged

Speaking about the heavy rains that lashed from the past few days the DC said that 9 houses suffered severe damage while 33 houses were damaged partially at different locations in the district. In accordance to the government direction, A compensation of Rs 5 lakh will be provided to the families whose house has been completely destroyed while the partially damaged houses will be provided a compensation of Rs 50, 000. Besides, monthly house rent will be provided for those residing in a rented house after having lost their houses, he informed.
