Mangaluru: Heavy rains accompanied with thunder and lightning are expected to hit Karnataka state, especially the coastal area from Mangaluru to Karwar in the next 48 hours as a side effect of cyclone ‘Kyarr’ in the Arabian Sea.
The Low Pressure Area, currently located over the east central Arabian Sea is expected to intensify into a depression very soon, move towards the northwest direction and transform into cyclone Kyarr. Although the system is very rare, it has presently prevailed as a Low Pressure Area for the last five days continuously.
There is a high possibility that the system will become a cyclone generating a winds of high speed in the next 24 hours. The meteorological department is monitoring the movement of the system and it is moving towards the western coast of the country.
Although the cyclone will not have a direct impact on the mainland for now, its influence can be seen in the west coast of Karnataka starting from Mangaluru to Karwar as well as Konkan area of Maharashtra and Goa.
However, once the cyclone brings in thick clouds, thunderstorms, strong winds and rain, it will gradually weaken after 48 hours and move towards Oman or Yemen coast.
Additonally, the weather department has also forecast that the sea on the coast of India will experience three tropical storms including Cyclone Kyarr over the next 10 days. The other two, ‘Maha’ and ‘Bulbul’ and are expected to come to life on the east coast in the Bay of Bengal.
