Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district has not performed well in the verification of voter list envisaged by the election commission. Although the exhaustive verification of voter list was completed about a month since the campaign began, DK district has not performed up to its apparent recognition as the land of educated people.
Considering the state as a whole, around 53% of the people here have already got their voter lists verified or modified however, DK district has remained back in this process. The district is far back at the 26 spot, while the neighbouring Udupi stands on the third position.
72% (7.24 lakh) of the total electorate of 10.07 lakh voters in Udupi district have got themselves verified on the list. Meanwhile, only 8.10 lakh voters out of 17.23 lakh voters in Dakshina Kannada have done this. Voter verification can be done pin person or online.
There is a disparity in the voter list verification numbers within DK district as well and according to the available stats, Mangaluru (north) constituency, Mangaluru (south) constituency, and Mangaluru constituencies are lagging far behind with only 1.87 lakh voters out of the total electorate of 6.75 lakh having done the process.
There is provision for revision of voter lists every year, however, this year the exercise has been undertaken on integrated way. The voters can verify the details on their smartphones itself through voter helpline app. It can also be done through block level officials, Seva Sindhu and other service centres including polling officials, taluk office, offices of assistant commissioners and others. Besides, one can also call the helpline 1950 for any assistance.
