Dy CM inaugurates Bioincubator at MAHE

Manipal: Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, Dr CN Ashwath Narayan on Friday inaugurated the Manipal-Government of Karnataka Bioincubator at the Advanced Research Centre in Manipal Academy of Higher Education here.

At a function later in Fortune Inn Valley View, Dr Narayan said, “Today’s collaboration will make a big difference in days to come and it will be a role model for all to emulate and encourage entrepreneurship. Manipal already has a lot of innovation and research. This will enhance their reputation even more’.

The DY CM who is also a minister for Higher Education, IT, BT, Science and Technology and Medical Education said, “The Centre is going to make a big difference in this part of Karnataka and the country. Whatever innovation is going to happen here, is going to be very important. Karnataka is the pioneer in science and technology, particularly in science, information technology, aerospace and many other sectors. In India we are the leaders and pioneers also”.

To maintain and sustain what we have done so far in the state, we need to promote such activities. The kind of incentives that the support system provides might not be good enough. But we are trying to make sure that those interested should not be denied any opportunity and do not have any disadvantage when competing globally. Karnataka is providing more money and facilities and that is the secret of our success.

CEO of the Bioincubator, Dr Manesh Thomas gave a brief about the Centre, and, MD and Director, IT and BT Karnataka, Mr PK Mishra gave a brief about the state’s activities in the field. “Most of the start-ups are from Bengaluru as they get good support there. So the government decided to take this to coastal Karnataka to remove regional imbalance and provide the facility to other parts of the state as well. That is how MAHE has got this,” he said.

Pro Chancellor MAHE, Dr H.S. Ballal said that the joint venture is unique and akin to the private public partnership MAHE had in establishing the medical college in Mangalore. “We will do all we can to ensure that the incubation centre will be of a world class. Also present on the occasion were Udupi MLA Mr Raghupathi Bhat, Chairman MEMG, Bengaluru, Dr Ranjan Pai, Vice Chancellor MAHE, Dr H Vinod Bhat, IG Police Mr Arun Chakravarty, CEO Zila Panchayat Ms Preeti Ghelot, Superintendent Police Udupi, Ms Nisha James.
