Fishing boat from Malpe sinks at Goa

The boat which eventually sank
Malpe: A deep sea fishing boat which left on a fishing expedition from Malpe developed engine troubles at Vasco in Goa and sank in the middle of the sea. The 6 fishermen aboard the sinking vessel including men from Bhatkal and Odisha were rescued by another fishing boat in the vicinity.
The deep sea fishing boat belonging to Bhskar Mendon named ‘Ramaraksha’ left on a fishing expedition on the night of Oct 15th from Malpe bunder. On Oct 24th as the boat was making it return journey, the engine developed a snag and stopped functioning due to the strong winds. Soon, the strong waves kept beating upon the stationary boat, water started filling in the vessel and it began to lose its buoyancy.
Immediately information regarding the situation was relayed to nearby fishing vessels and Balanjaneya fishing boat which was in the vicinity rushed to its aid. The crew aboard the sinking vessel were then rescued.
It is estimated that the total loss incurred in the incident is close to Rs 48 lakh. A complaint in this connection has been submitted to the coastal security police.
