Mangaluru: The editor of a television channel tendered an apology for remarks passed by the channel anchor on Yakshagana artists.

In a recent interview with senior journalist Ravi Belagere, the TV anchor Soukhya Gaonkar had said that Yakshagana artistes deliver dialogues only after consuming alcohol. A video clip of her interview went viral on social media.

Irked by her comment, indirectly implying that all Yakshagana artistes are drunkards, Yakshagana enthusiasts in both the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts demanded an apology for tarnishing the image of Yakshagana artists.

In the backdrop of the backlash, the TV channel editor apologised for her remarks. He, however, said that the remarks were unintentional.
