Mysuru: After Chief Minister, BS Yediyurappa promised said that Tipu Sultan’s history will be removed from textbooks and such topics must not be in the books, BJP MP Pratap Simha on Wednesday said that he is happy with the state government’s decision to remove lessons on Tipu Sultan from textbooks.

Addressing presspersons Pratap said, “Tipu was a tyrant who cheated and killed Madakari Nayaka. I’m very happy with the state government’s decision to remove lessons on Tipu Sultan from textbooks.”

He further added, “Tipu tried to insult our culture and it’s a good thing hereafter students of our state need not study about him.”

Meanwhile,

State Education Minister Suresh Kumar on October 28 wrote to Managing Director of Karnataka Textbook Society, directing him to submit a report in three days on the proposal to strike off references to the controversial 18th-century ruler of erstwhile Mysore kingdom from history textbooks.

As per the sources, Kumar in his letter also mentioned to hold a meeting with the History Textbook Drafting Committee and invite Ranjan to discuss the necessity of the lesson on Tipu Sultan and whether to keep it or to remove it.
