MCC polls: Man assaults ex-MLA Mohiuddin Bava over denial of ticket

Mangaluru: Shortly after the press meet called by district Congress to announce its candidates for the upcoming MCC elections got over, a youth is said to have assaulted former Congress MLA Mohiuddin Bava allegedly for not getting a ticket to contest in the polls.
The Congress on Wednesday announced its list of 60 candidates for the MCC elections at a press conference held at Hotel Ocean Pearl here.
Few people were shouting slogans outside the venue after the announcement. In the melee that prevailed here, the man, Azeem, son of a former mayor Gulzar Banu is said to have assaulted Bava when the Congress leaders were walking out from the venue.
The scuffle was over allotment of a ticket to for Chokkabettu ward.
The situation was brought under control following the intervention of other Congress leaders, including former minister B Ramanath Rai, U T Khader and MLC Ivan D’Souza.
