Kundapur: In yet another case of illegal cattle transportation, forest officers on night patrol duty, at Nayikodi check post on the state highway 27 near Kollur, rescued 21 buffaloes which were being taken to a slaughterhouse in Manjeshwar.

The incident took place at Nayikodi check post of Jadkal near Kollur in the taluk on Wednesday, October 30 morning.

The forest officers Dayananada K and Janardhana Poojary had stopped the vehicle for routine checking and found the buffaloes – 12 male and nine female – hurdled in an inhumane manner in the container of the Eicher truck. They immediately notified the Kollur police, who rushed to the spot and arrested two persons involved in the illegal transportation of the cattle.

The arrested have been identified as Imran Basha (27), a Davanagere resident and Tabrez Befari (22), a resident of Old Hubballi.

Kollur police registered a case in this regard.
