Udupi: Observing that a number of boats are engaged in bull trawling and fishing with powerful LED lights, despite a ban on the same District In-charge Secretary M Maheshwar Rao instructed the fisheries department to deduct diesel subsidy on diesel of the violators.
Speaking at the district-level meeting organised at the deputy commissioner’s office on Wednesday, Rao said that the government will make suitable amends to Karnataka Marine Act to penalise those violating rules by initiating action like deducting diesel subsidy, hefty fine, suspending license among others.
Further, he said that transportation of generator for engaging in light fishing should be prevented at the harbour itself. All boats should install a boat tracking system to trace the boats in the deep sea, he added.
