Mangaluru: National highway officials have submitted a proposal to Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner seeking diversion of vehicular traffic on Gurpur Bridge in order to undertake urgent repair works on November 7.
Heavy rainfall in the district has damaged the bridge and led to the formation of several potholes on the bridge thereby necessitating emergency repair works.
As per the proposal, which is being circulated on social websites, a ban has been sought on vehicular movement between 6 am to 6 pm on November 7. Vehicles coming from Moodbidri will be diverted via Kaikamba-Bajpe-Maravoor bridge road to reach Mangaluru. Likewise, vehicles going towards Moodbidri have to take Maravoor bridge, Bajpe, Kaikamba, Moodbidri road when the traffic restriction is in place.
Meanwhile, several people have voiced that the repair works can be undertaken on Sunday as it will not pose any hardships to the working class.
