Mangaluru: A verbal spat broke out between MLC Ivan D’Souza and BJP worker at the entrance of polling booth at Infant Mary Higher Primary School, Jeppu necessitating police intervention to prevent the incident into snowballing further.

The commotion began after BJP workers objected to Ivan’s presence at the polling station and influencing voters to cast their votes in favour of Congress candidate. BJP workers said that they too will call their MPs and MLAs to influence the voters if Ivan did not leave the spot.

Ivan, on the other hand, blamed BJP workers for creating a commotion.

The situation was brought under control with intervention of ACP Gaonkar and returning officer and voting resumed peacefully thereafter.

Meanwhile, the Congress and BJP party workers were asked to maintain a distance of 100 meters away from the entrance of the polling booth.
