Mangaluru: The chief district and sessions court here sentenced a man to seven years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with a 2018 murder case of Daniel Fernandes.
The convicted, Jagadish Shetty (49) had assaulted Daniel Fernandes with a boulder following a verbal argument between the two on September 20, 2018. Daniel breathed his last on September 23 at a hospital where he was admitted for treatment.
As charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder were proved against Jagadish, court Judge Kadlur Satyanarayana Acharya sentenced him to seven years RI and imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000. Failure to pay the fine will attract an additional one-year simple imprisonment, the court ruled.
Further, the judge observed that the deceased’s wife would be eligible to claim compensation from the district legal services authority.
