Uppinangady: Indraprastha School of Uppinangady became the firt school in the district to introduce water bell system to keep the school students hydrated throughout the day.
The water bell rings thrice in a day, at 10:35 AM in the morning, at 12 noon, and at 2 PM in the afternoon.
So far there was no mechanism to ensure that students were drinking enough water in a day but no by introducing introduced a separate ‘break’ the students drink water in the presence of their teachers.
According to Jose MJ, Principal of Indraprastha Vidyalaya health complications among the students will be reduced as they have now developed a habit of drinking water.
It may be recalled that Primary and Secondary education minister S Suresh Kumar had said, “I happened to see the water bell initiative taken by the Kerala government on social media. It’s a great programme that can be implemented. I have directed the commissioner of public instruction to formulate a programme for our children too, where they can drink water three or four times a day to stay hydrated. While we will ensure it is implemented in all places, we need to chart out a plan for it.
