Badagabettu gang rape case: Court sentences accused to 20 years RI

Udupi: A POSCO court on Tuesday sentenced two persons, convicted of gangraping a minor girl in the year 2016 to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and Rs 60,000 penalty.
Earlier on November 20 the court in its judgment held Padam Singh Seni (28) and Mukesh Seni (20) guilty under the POSCO Act.
The accused who were acquainted with the victim’s father had forcibly abducted the girl from her residence on July 8, 2016 night and had raped her at a rented house at Badagabettu here. They also threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident to her parents. A case in this regard was filed on July 10, 2016.
In its verdict, court judge C M Joshi said that the victim can seek one lac rupees compensation from legal services authority. The accused will have to serve 33 months of additional imprisonment if they fail to pay penalty.
