Two-day Mangaluru Lit Fest inaugurated

Mangaluru: The second edition of the Mangaluru Lit Fest, being held at TMA Pai International Convention Centre was inaugurated by Jnanapeeta awardee, poet and folklorist Dr Chandrashekara Kambara on Friday, November 29.
The two-day lit fest, based on the theme – ‘The Idea of Bharat – today and tomorrow’ is being hosted by the Mangaluru Literary Foundation, in association with Kannada and Culture Department.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the programme, Dr Chandrashekara Kambara prominence must be given respective state language as the medium of instruction instead of relying on English language.
Stressing on the difficulty in teaching science subjects in Kannada language he said that there is a need to adapt our own state language Kannada in our education system. “I and writer S L Bhyrappa met PM Modi and discussed the need to adapt respective state language as the medium of instruction,” he informed.
Further he said that the British had introduced the English education in the country inorder to strenghten their administration.
Noted researcher, author and historian Dr. M Chidananda Murthy was felicitated with the lifetime achievement award on the occasion. ‘Sathyam Shodham Nirbhitham’ a book authored by Murthy was released on the occasion
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Murthy said that no one should be forcefully compelled to embrace any religion. He lauded state governments decision to ban Tipu Jayanthi, as the erstwhile Mysuru ruler had ordered killing of Hindus.
Eminent literary, political and ideological persons including Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, Anurag Thakur; Smita Prakash – editor-in-chief, ANI; Savio Rodrigues – editor-in-chief, Goa Chronicle; Gen G D Bakshi (retd); Barkha Dutt, journalist and author; B L Santosh, BJP general secretary; Rajeev Chandrashekar; Malavika Avinash among others will participate in the lit fest.
