Mangaluru: City Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha on Friday said that penalties will be imposed on motorists if they fail to produce original documents during police verification.

He was replying to a complaint, regarding slapping of fines despite producing photocopies of the documents during the weekly phone-in programme organised at Police Commissionerate office

Stating that photocopies of documents hold no relevance under the New Motor Vehicles Act, Dr Harsha requested the public to co-operate with the police and keep all original documents in the vehicle.

Following several complaints on encroachment of footpaths by roadside vendors, Dr Harsha assured to take up a joint operation with Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) to evict the street vendors.

He also informed that the Command and Control Centre (CCC) will be set up under Smart City Mission to monitor the traffic in the city.

As many as 13 road works had begun under Smart City Mission. The MCC was asked to take up the work on filling potholes and other emergency works on a priority basis, Dr Harsha added.
