M’lore as icecream capital of India: MLA Vedavyas’s out-of-box approach to promote tourism

Mangaluru: A Facebook post by Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath has earned appreciation from Mangalureans for his out-of-the-box thinking when it comes to taking initiatives for the development and welfare of the city.
The MLA who in the past tried to raise environmental awareness among the public by his social media posts (for eg. asking hoteliers to opt for banana leaves instead of opting for plastic packaging etc) has once again in a post tried to pitch Mangalore as Ice Cream capital of India.
In a Facebook post, Kamath said, “Tourism can happen with anything, I strongly feel for Mangalore, Icecream is one of them. Calling Mangalore Icecream Capital of India is totally right. Namma Kudla is the Icecream City.”
The idea seems to have struck a chord with Mangulerans and the post has gone viral on social media. It’s a known fact that anyone coming to Mangaluru wants to taste a few of the ice creams – Dilkush, Gadbad, etc – on offer at the parlors here and the idea of promoting tourism in Mangaluru to experience its rich culture, tradition, food has been lauded by the netizens.
