Hubballi: The encounter of the four rape-accused in Hyderabad, led by Cyberabad police commissioner Vishwanath Sajjanar has sparked mixed reaction across the country. While few have justified the killing, others have called it a blot on our judicial system.
A 1996 IPS batch officer, Sajjanar, who hails from Hubballi, had earned the moniker ‘the encounter cop’ in the year 2008 when he was Superintendent of Police in Warangal. Back then the AP police had gunned down three youngsters accused of throwing acid on two women engineering students.
Sajjanar was also known for his role in the killing of Naxal leader Nayeemuddin when he was the IG Special Intelligence Branch.
The encounter cop completed his primary and high school education from Lions School, Hubbali.
In Hyderabad’s encounter case, the police said, “The accused were taken to the crime scene Friday morning as part of the investigation. The accused fired upon the police team and we retaliated in self-defence. Two of our men are also injured in the incident.”
