Kanasu -2019: First-ever wheelchair cricket tournament held in city

Mangaluru: Kanasu -2019, a program organised by the Sahodaya, for the empowerment of the specially-abled was inaugurated at Sahyadri College Grounds in Adyar on Sunday, December 8.
As part of the outreach program, a 20-over wheelchair cricket match was held between Maharashtra and Karnataka teams. This is the first-ever wheelchair cricket tournament to be organised in Mangaluru.
Chasing a target of 148, Karnataka managed to secure a victory in 16 overs. Karnataka’s Tippeswamy (94 runs in 52 balls) was awarded man of the match while Santosh R of Maharashtra was adjudged best bowler.
In his presidential address, St Aloysius College Principal Rev Fr Dr Praveen Martis said that we must celebrate life which is God’s gift to us.
Dhiraj Sequeira, President of Sahodaya informed that this is the maiden wheelchair cricket tournament for disabled persons being organised by the Sahodaya.

The outreach programme launched by Sahodaya has been constantly working with groups and institutions catering to the needs of such people aims at imbibing spirit of togetherness and lending their mite towards empowerment of people with disabilities even after completion of their studies.
