CAA Protests: Armed personnel deployed at vital points in city

Mangaluru: Amid opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Act, city police have deployed tight security to maintain law and order situation across the city.

Armed police personnel have been deployed near Deputy Commissioner’s office and other main locations in the city to avoid any untoward incidents.

Meanwhile, police resorted to lathi charging a group of protesters here near the Deputy Commissioners office on Thursday, afternoon for staging demonstration despite the imposition of Sec 144.

Prohibitory orders have been imposed within the city police commissionerate limits till December 21 midnight.

Earlier yesterday Dr Harsha said, “We have spoken to Islamic Clerics and Muslim Central Committee and they have assured that they will not protest. If anyone posts any message to provocate public, strict action will be taken against them.”

The police commissioner has also ordered that the protests should not be held without seeking permission.
