Mangaluru: Two days after protests against the citizenship amendment act took a violent turn in the city, the situation in curfew-clamped Mangaluru continued to remain peaceful.

Meanwhile, the curfew was relaxed for two hours on Saturday between 6 am-8 am in order to allow people to purchase groceries, including milk. The news of the relaxation, however, became known to the public only through television channels whereafter people rushed to the nearest shops to buy essential commodities.

Several people, including store owners expressed disappointment that no prior announcement was made about the relaxation of curfew. Meanwhile, the police had to resort to a mild lathi-charge to disperse the public post 8 am as the curfew came into force.

The curfew will be in force till December 22 midnight.
