Kadaba: Eight school students were honored for their bravery and quick thinking which helped save a class 5 girl student from getting raped at Dolpaddy in the taluk recently. The children were honored at a local function held in the taluk.
On December 14, the class 5 girl student was on her way home after attending school when a man assaulted her in a deserted area here. The perpetrator identified as Shivaram allegedly gagged her and forcibly pulled her into the nearby bushes in an attempt to rape her. A group of students who were walking along the same road, sensed danger when they noticed Shivaram pulling the girl into the bushes.
The eldest of the group, Akshay (11) yelled at Shivaram saying I will bring my father and teach you a lesson and ordered the rest of the children also to shout for help. Akshay ran around 300 meters and alerted his father about the incident. People from nearby households too gathered and rushed to the spot.
Meanwhile, Shivaram who fled the scene was arrested by Kadaba police on December 16. He has been booked under POSCO and remanded to judicial custody.
