Mangaluru: Karnataka Road Transport Corporation has decided to set up plastic crushing machines in five of its bus stands before the end of January. These machines shred plastic bottles which can then be recycled or reused in other applications.

Presently, a machine is being operated very successfully at the Majestic bus stand at Bangaluru. So KSRTC planned to install five more of them in Mangaluru, Hassan, Shivamogga, Davanagere and Mysuru KSRTC bus stands.

Thousands of used plastic bottles are disposed of by passengers and commuters at KSRTC bus stands. The corporation has stopped distributing free water bottles to its luxury bus passengers and also plans to organise fairs every three months at its bus stands on eco-efficient management of wastes.
