All mining activities around KRS dam banned

Bengaluru: Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has ordered the Mandya district administration to stop all mining activity near the Krishnaraja Sagar dam. The move comes following the advice given by geologists to the chief minister that stone mining in the vicinity of the dam may affect it.
The dam is the source of water for almost 600 villages and four towns including Bengaluru. More than 2 lakh hectares of agricultural land too are irrigated by the dam.
Stone mining in the adjoining areas of the KRS dam, specifically at Babybetta, was causing tremors in the dam. Repeated complaints to the state government did not result in any action until now.
