Mumbai: Mumbai police on Tuesday filed an FIR against the woman holding the controversial “Free Kashmir” placard during a protest against the JNU violence at Gateway of India on Monday.

Images and videos of the woman holding up a large poster with the words “Free Kashmir” written in big bold letters at the Gateway of India protest went viral.

They triggered outrage among BJP leaders and many social media users who asked how can such “separatist elements” be tolerated in the city.

The FIR has been registered against the woman, Mehak Mirza Prabhu, under section 153 B of IPC, a Mumbai police spokesperson said.

In a video statement, Mehak Prabhu, a resident of Mumbai, said through the poster she was just highlighting the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, which had been put under a slew of communication curbs post revocation of its special status by the Centre on August 5.
