New Delhi: The government may consider incentives for companies engaged in solid and liquid waste management activities in the upcoming Budget with a view to promote the growth of the sector and push Swachh Bharat initiatives, sources said.
They said there is a demand for extension of income tax benefits and up to 100 per cent depreciation on machines used for solid and liquid waste management activities is under consideration.
To promote cleanliness in the country, the government has launched the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) and the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban).
This flagship programme is one of the largest cleanliness drive as well as an attempt to effect behavioural change in the world.
According to last year’s Economic Survey, solid and liquid waste management is one of the major components of this mission.
Many states have undertaken activities such as the construction of waste collection centres, installation of bi-gas plants, construction of compost pits, installation of dustbins, a system for collection, segregation and disposal of garbage, and construction of drainage facilities.
