Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has been slapped with a Rs 50,000 penalty for using single-use plastic cups during the recent India-Australia one-day international match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
A notice issued to KSCA read,“During the one-day cricket match on January 19, the BBMP’s deputy health officer (East) has found plastic cups, and display of plastic flex and banners. Despite awareness created by the BBMP’s Health Department regarding the ban on plastic, such materials were used in the food stalls.”
The penalty has been imposed in accordance with the Event Waste Management notification (dated 03-07-2015) and Plastic Ban amendment notification (dated 11-07-2017).
Meanwhile, it is gathered that the KSCA has sought information from BBMP as to where the single-use plastic cups were found in the stadium during the India-Australia match.
