Bajrang Dal, VHP financially help Mangaluru acid attack victim

Mangaluru: The Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Durga Vahini have offered financial help to Swapna, the victim of an acid attack.

Condemning acid attacks Vidyananda Saraswati, seer of Om Shri Mutt said that they will donate Rs1 lakh to the victim and are planning to collect money for her medical expenses and her family’s rehabilitation.

Swapna’s brother in law Jayanand, the accused, had been trying to sexually exploit her after the death of her husband Ravi. She had even filed a complaint against him with the Superintendent of Police B M Laxmi Prasad and also with the women’s police station at Puttur.

On the day of the attack, Jayanand had tried to kill her using a sickle but Swapna had locked herself in her house. He later threw a bottle of acid used in making rubber sheets inside which fell on Swapna and her daughter. Swapna sustained burns on her face, chest and lost an eye and her daughter sustained minor injuries.

VHP has also demanded that Swapna’s case be tried at a fast track court and compensation to her by the government.
