After CT Ravi, MLA Kamath too asks official recognition for Tulu; submits memorandum to CM

Mangaluru: MLA from Mangaluru (South) Vedavyas Kamath on Tuesday, February 18 submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Yediyurappa appealing for official status for the Tulu language by and inclusion in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution.

Kamath explained that Tulu language is the native language of more than 1.5 crore people, that has its own script and literature created in it before 1300 AD.

He further added that scores of stone and copper edicts along with palm documents are available in the language throughout coastal Karnataka concurring its eligibility to be declared as an official language of the state.

Along with Kamath MLAs Dr Y Bharath Shetty, Rajesh Naik and Harish Poonja were also present during the submission of the memorandum.
