Kambala — a word that was until last week known only to the people of coastal Karnataka has now gained international fame. Thanks to Sreenivas Gowda, whose record performance at the Aikala Kambala was mapped and reported as being ‘faster than that of Usain Bolt’.
The comparison did the magic and he turned into an overnight Internet sensation.
Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa felicitated him with a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh — the bill was footed by the labour department owing to Gowda’s full-time profession. Other prominent leaders also joined in to celebrate the achievement.
Vicks India too came out in support of India’s Usain Bolt. In a congratulatory post, Vicks India came up with a witty creative on their social media page “Congratulations to all our Buffalo Jockeys at this year’s Kambala races. You have proven that records are made to be broken.
The post has garnered more than 7.3k likes and has been making rounds on social media. An apt creative and a brilliant branding idea!
