Karnataka Budget 2020: Door-to-door delivery of fertilisers for farmers

Bengaluru: Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Thursday presented the state budget for the year for the fiscal year 2020-’21 on an emotional note saying that the state is facing one of its worst financial crises.

Yediyurappa said, “In 2019-2020, as the GST compensation received from the Centre was low. We have not received Rs 8,887 crore from the Centre, due to this, it was difficult to meet the deadlines set in 2019-20 fiscal. The 15th Finance Commission has recommended allocation of 3.64% to Karnataka. This is lesser than the 4.71% which we had got before.”

He further added that the state has faced massive droughts and in 2019, in August and October, floods ravaged the state. “Rs 6108 crore was allocated for rehabilitation works and Rs 3423 crore has been released for the same,” he said.

“Door-to-door delivery of fertilisers will be made available for farmers and will also be educated about the various fertilisers and how to use them. 1 lakh hectares of land will be irrigated. We have also dedicated to start the Mahadayi project. Our government is allocating Rs 500 crore for the Kalasa-Banduri project,” said CM.

Rs 1 lakh cash prize was given to SC/ST student who top exams. For government school teachers, Shikshaka Mitra mobile app will be rolled out this fiscal. Rs 1 crore for the establishment of English medium schools. Rs 138 crore has been allocated for the development of anganwadis. In areas where government residential schools are located, 25% or the seats should be given to the students from the same taluks.

Rs 10 crore has been allocated for establishing electric vehicle charging points in Bengaluru. This is to promote the use of electric vehicles. Bengaluru Centre for Smart Manufacturing will be set up at the cost of Rs 5 lakh.

Rs 8772 crore was allocated for Navanagarottana Yojana, Rs 2600 crore was allotted for Clean Bengaluru Yojana, Rs 317 was given for lake cleaning, Rs 200 crore was given for desilting storm water drain, Rs 200 crore for Waste to Energy Plant.

Artificial Intelligence Research Park to come up at IISc in Bengaluru. This is being done to promote research in Artificial Intelligence. For this, govt will grant Rs 60 crore for the next three years.
