Bengaluru: In connection with the controversial play enacted by students of Shaheen Primary and High School, the district and sessions court in Bidar noted that the play has not caused any disharmony in the society.

While granting anticipatory bail to members of the school management charged with sedition, Sessions Judge Managoli Premavathi said, “The drama has not caused any disharmony in the society. Considering all the circumstances, I am of the opinion that the ingredients of Section 124A of IPC (Sedition) are prima facie lacking.”

A row had erupted after the play, themed on protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) was enacted by the students, aged between 9-12 on January 21.

A case of sedition on the basis of a complaint that a girl student in the drama had used derogatory dialogues against the Prime Minister.

The police had arrested two women – the widowed mother of an 11-year-old student and a teacher at the school on charges of sedition. Both of them were released on bail after being held in custody for 16 days.

Meanwhile, the police came in for severe criticism for repeated questioning students involved in the play at the school premises.
